Carl Spindler Campground

Best Peoria Camping for Bikers

This campground, included in the broader Fon du Lac Park District, is situated on the shore of Peoria Lake just eight miles from the heart of Peoria. The Spindler Marina offers boating access to the lake and the Illinois River. Cross the bridge into Peoria and you can find many parks to enjoy. This campground intercepts the Illinois River Road Scenic Byway’s 150 miles that follow the Illinois River from Ottawa to Havana for easy access for hiking and biking.

This Peoria campground has 52 paved sites, and all come with electricity. Some sites come with water and/or sewer hookups and are suitable for RVs or trailers. There are 26 other primitive sites with electricity. Reserve a site by contacting the park district using the information on their website.

MillPoint RV Park

Best Peoria Camping for Fishing

Fifteen minutes north of Peoria, you can find MillPoint RV Park right along the Illinois River. This park is neighbored to the north by one of its two small fishing lakes and Spring Bay Fen Nature Reserve, the only remaining Illinois River cold water tall shrub fen remaining in the state. A small walking path leads from the campground down to the river, and two fishing lakes on the property can be used. Explore the Wildlife Prairie Park to see elk, otters, bison, wolves, & more, or take things slower with the nearby Forest Park and its seven miles of trails or Luthy Botanical Gardens.

This Tazewell County campground offers 80 shaded water and electric sites, pull-through sites, one- and two-room cabins, and both delineated and find-your-own tent sites. Reserve a tent site and prepare for your next adventure!

Fort Crevecoeur Park and Campground

A ten-minute drive south of Peoria finds you at Fort Crevecoeur Park. This 86-acre park commemorates a French explorer and their construction of the first public building built by settlers in Illinois. The nature preserve has over fifty prairie plant species and the nature loop allows campers to view the hardwood forests present. The park also includes easy access to the Illinois River, a museum, and educational programs. For close attractions, try visiting Independence Park and traveling some of its 12 miles of hiking and biking trails. Make sure to see the Indy Creek Waterfall!

Kentuckiana Kampground

A half-hour drive from both Peoria, IL and Bloomington, IL, the Kentuckiana Kampground is out on its own in central Illinois. Activities available at the camp include nature trails, shuffleboard, bocce courts, a basketball court, and two fishing ponds. Local attractions include scheduled bingo, flea markets, and potlucks. Further afield to the northeast, you can visit Mackinaw River State Fish and Wildlife Area and ParkLands Nature Preserve for hiking opportunities.

This well-maintained Tazewell County campground offers shady, pull-through sites with 15- to 50-amp electric hookups with sewer and water. Primitive tent camping is also available. Facilities include restrooms and showers but the real standout is their entertainment. The campground features country music shows every weekend along with more activities during major summer weekends making it great for families.

Timberline Campground

About 25 minutes from both Bloomington and Peoria, IL, the Timberland Campground could be the place you stay for a night or a summer! This family-friendly campground offers weekends full of fun activities for youngsters and their families to participate in. A pool, horseshoe pits, basketball, sand volleyball, mini-golf, playground, and a jumping pillow are assured to keep you and your family entertained.

With over 300 campsites at this Tazewell County campground, you’re sure to find one that suits your needs.
