3. Hickory Hill Campground

Hickory Hill Campground is a great private campground option when you are camping near Eureka. It’s nestled into Illinois’ countryside and provides a relaxing, beautiful place to stay.

You won’t be bored staying at this campground if you take advantage of all the activities and amenities offered! Choose whether you want to go for a swim in the lake or in the pool, both are refreshing options! Show off your abilities in a game of basketball, shuffleboard, or ping-pong, and then challenge your family and friends to a round of mini-golf! The rec hall with pool tables is the best way to escape the summer heat. Kids will have so much fun using the campground’s exciting playground!

Daily, monthly, and seasonal camping is available at Hickory Hills Campground. Primitive campsites with no utilities give tent campers a more rustic and authentic camping experience. Campsites with water and electric hookups and campsites with full-hookups accommodate RVs, trailers, and campers who are looking for a slightly more comfortable experience. Campers have access to a shower building with flushable toilets and coin-operated laundry facilities.

Look no farther than Timberline Campground if you are camping near Eureka! Timberline Campground is filled with activities, amenities, and events that create a camping experience like no other. Go for a swim in their gorgeous outside pool or start up a competition on the basketball or volleyball courts! If you want to practice or try out fishing, the campground offers catch-and-release fishing.

A unique amenity that is thrilling for everyone is the bouncy pillow! Find out how high you can jump! Additional activities like mini-golf, pedal carts, gem mining, and golf cart rentals are available for an additional fee. Timberline Campground hosts themed events each weekend during camping season, so check their schedule of activities on their website before you go!

Timberline Campground focuses on providing camping options for each camper’s individual needs. They offer nightly, weekly, monthly, and seasonal campsites. Primitive campsites with no water are available for tents, campsites with water and electric are available for tents and small trailers, and full-hookup sites are available for larger RVs and trailers. A dump station is available on the campground. Youth group camping is available for tent camping only. Three shower buildings with flushable toilets are available throughout the campground along with free Wifi internet access across the entire campground.

Over 10 cabins can be reserved at Timberline Campground. Each cabin is unique, and I recommend going on their website to look at each cabin individually to find what will fit your needs.

1. Woodford State Fish & Wildlife Area

Woodford State Fish and Wildlife Area gives you the opportunity to support the Illinois Department of Natural Resources when camping near Eureka. This picturesque area comprises the bottomland forest and backwater lakes of the Illinois River. If you enjoy watching wildlife, you’ll love visiting Woodford State Fish and Wildlife Area. Deer, raccoon, muskrat, mink, and beaver call this beautiful forest home, and bald eagles are frequently seen flying over the trees.

Aside from watching wildlife, you’ll be able to go boating, fishing, and hunting. Use the public boat ramp to get out onto the lake and cast your line. If you’re lucky, you’ll find yourself catching bullhead and crappie! Waterfowl and squirrel hunting is permitted at Woodford State Fish and Wildlife area. Additionally, over three miles of trails are available for hiking in the spring, summer, and fall, and cross-country skiing in the winter!

The campground at Woodford State Fish and Wildlife Area is open from the beginning of April to the end of September. Campsites for both tents and RVs/trailers are available. There are no flushable toilets and no showers at the campground. The only restroom options are pit privies (outhouses). A sanitary dump station is also available.

Due to the occasional flooding of the Illinois River, camping is not always available. It is recommended you call Woodford State Fish and Wildlife Area ahead of your trip to find out the state of the campground.
