3. Lena KOA

If you’re looking for a campground that will be a success with the whole family, Lena KOA Holiday Campground offers some of the best family-friendly camping near Freeport. This campground is beautifully landscaped with vibrant flowers and grassy areas. You and your family will be able to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities!

Both the young and the young at heart will have a blast using the Jumbo Jumper, a cross between a bounce house and a trampoline. Kids can travel around the campground in style with fun train rides! Another unique feature of this campground that the whole family will love is panning for gemstones and fossils in the mining-themed section of the campground. Cornhole, GaGa Ball, carpetball, volleyball, and basketball are only some of the many games you will be able to play!

Lodging options at Lenda KOA Holiday Campground include a selection of deluxe cabins with full bathrooms and partial kitchens, camping cabins with no bathroom and no kitchen, and teepees with no bathroom and no kitchen. You’ll need to bring your own linens when staying in either type of cabin or in one of the teepees.

Make sure to check out the campgrounds restaurant and snack bar before you leave for some delicious food and refreshments!

Emerald Acres Campground is made up of both RV and tent campsites. RV campsites come with electric and water hookups and are also available to be rented weekly, monthly, or seasonally in addition to nightly. There are two bathhouses with flushable toilets and showers located on the campground. Campsites range from fully shaded to sunny, so book according to your preference! This state recreation provides fun outdoor activities all year long! Bring your own boat to this state recreation area and use the available boat launch to then enjoy the stunning 1.4 miles of wooded shoreline while catching largemouth bass, bluegill, and bullhead fish. Lake Le-Aqua-Na State Recreation Area also offers a small beach that is particularly suited for children. During winter, you can ice-fish, sled, and cross-country ski! The 8.5 miles of trails can also be used year-round for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing!

Lake Le-Aqua-Na State Recreation Area can accommodate RV, tent, equestrian, and youth campers. Campsites with water and electric hookups are located throughout the campground. According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the campsites at Lake Le-Aqua-Na State Recreation Area are not very secluded but still provide enough shade to help keep you comfortable. You should note that the RV campground is open throughout the entire year but tent camping is not because the shower building is only operational from May to the end of October.
